I understand and appreciate where you are coming from on this and would not like to have apps randomly start talking to me. Where my thought where on this is when a user has the app open but it is not in the foreground, much like a music app that keeps playing when navigated away from. It allows you to continue playing music while going to another app so you can start recording your workout/run or browse the internet all while jamming out.
This is all decided up by the user as they control of the app and would be anticipating the interaction with the app. I understand the importance of the notifications as I don’t need this going off when I am at work, and have no expectations of getting channel interactions while the app would not be in a active forground/background status. This update is a huge step forward compared to no phone app communication so thank you for that.
